Toilet Replacement FAQ

How long does it take to replace a toilet?expand_more

One to two hours for a straightforward swap. That includes shutting off water, removing the old toilet, inspecting the flange, installing the new wax ring and toilet, connecting the water supply, and testing for leaks. Complications like a corroded flange or uneven floor can add time.

Should I buy the toilet myself or can you provide one?expand_more

Most homeowners prefer to pick their own toilet for style and feature preferences. We are happy to recommend models based on your needs — comfort height, elongated bowl, water-saving dual flush, and other features. We install whatever you choose.

What is a comfort-height toilet and is it worth it?expand_more

Comfort-height toilets sit 17 to 19 inches high versus the standard 15 inches. They are significantly easier to sit down on and stand up from, especially for taller adults and anyone with knee or hip issues. They are our most requested upgrade and the price difference is minimal.

Do you replace the wax ring every time?expand_more

Every time, no exceptions. The wax ring creates the seal between the toilet and the drain flange. Reusing an old wax ring is asking for a sewer gas leak or worse. We use either a traditional wax ring or a wax-free gasket depending on the flange condition.

What if the toilet flange is damaged?expand_more

Damaged or corroded flanges are common, especially in older homes. We can install a flange repair ring or replace the flange entirely depending on the extent of the damage. A solid flange is critical — it is what holds the toilet to the floor and maintains the drain seal.

Can you move a toilet to a different location?expand_more

Moving a toilet requires rerouting the drain line, which is a plumbing project beyond our scope. We do same-location replacements where the drain stays in its existing position. For relocation, you would need a plumbing specialist.

How We Handle Toilet Replacement

Every job follows a consistent process to ensure quality results.

1

Prep & Water Shut-Off

We shut off the water supply at the valve behind the toilet, flush to empty the tank and bowl, and sponge out remaining water. Drop cloths are placed to protect the floor during the swap.

2

Old Toilet Removal

The supply line is disconnected, mounting bolts are removed, and the old toilet is lifted off the flange. We stuff a rag in the drain temporarily to block sewer gas while the opening is exposed.

3

Flange Inspection & Preparation

The drain flange is inspected for cracks, corrosion, and proper height relative to the finished floor. We clean off the old wax and repair or replace the flange if needed. The mounting bolt slots are checked for integrity.

4

New Toilet Installation

A new wax ring is placed on the flange. The new toilet is set carefully onto the ring, pressed down to seat it, and leveled. Mounting bolts are tightened evenly and the toilet is checked for rock or wobble.

5

Connection & Leak Testing

The water supply line is connected (new braided stainless line recommended), the water is turned on, and the tank fills. We flush multiple times, check every connection for leaks, and verify the toilet does not rock. The old toilet is removed from the property or staged for your disposal.
